METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a gooey and stringy glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper directly under the gum. After that we slide the scraper slowly under the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use very high pressure because that will sometimes damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than necessary to clean concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal professional.
